Definition of a Drug Any chemical substance that causes a physical or mental change in the structure of the body. Round Robin: Appoint a recorder and take turns listing any drugs you know of. You have 90 seconds!
Types of Drugs Medicine: a drug given for the purpose of prevention, diagnosis or treatment of a disease or illness. Prescription: a doctor’s written direction for the use of medicine. Over-the-counter: medicine that can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription.
Types of Drugs continued… Illegal: drugs that are forbidden by law. Crossover: drugs that are illegal but can be used as medication. Which type of drug is most abused? Can you think of an example for each of these types of drugs? What type of drug did your list consist mostly of?
