Write one positive and one negative effect of drinking alcohol on the four dimensions of hauora Taha tinana – physical Taha hinengaro – mental/emotional Taha whanau – social Taha wairua - spiritual

 Explain the influences that advertising has on an individual’s decision to drink alcohol

 The sponsorship by alcohol companies of major sporting events puts alcohol advertising in the public arena at all times of the day (and not just after 8.30pm on TV)  This reinforces what many consider as an unhealthy relationship between sport and drinking alcohol

 The cleverness of some beer ads in particular means that some phrases in some adverts are recognised by many in NZ society and some phrases have become ‘cultural’ expressions  Alcohol companies have huge advertising budgets and can afford high- profile and expensive advertising such as billboards at major city intersections or on main highways, where they are highly visible to everyone – including young people

 In groups, go around the adverts and answer the questions  Turn your paper upside down or fold it over so the next group cant see  Think critically  Move onto next photo on my command  Let’s do the first one together!

 That man deserves a DB!  Tui workers  ‘Five Speight’s Thanks Mate’  ‘In an Absolut World’  Baileys’ and coffee  Vive Cuervo  Bacardi Limon Examples...

 Complete individually in silence using your knowledge of alcohol advertisements  Let’s do ‘spiritual’ together
