Purpose of Presentation:  Focuses on HSL staff capacity development  Presents some of the challenges for HSL  Future plans

HSL Profiles: HSL  Opened on 7 th January  Extension building November 2011 HSL staff  23 fulltime staff, 1 foreign adviser  15 volunteer student interns

II. Staff capacity building development: 1. In service training: a. Experienced staff train new staff:  IT skills: online cataloging, OPAC development  Basic library skills: Circulation desk, photocopy service, internet and technical services.

In service training Other training opportunities for HSL librarians:  Collection development, classification (DDC)  Internet skills  Searching skills

Cambodian based events   Cambodia Library Association, NGOs( SIPA, Room To Read): service promotion, classification,… -CameIFL: IT skills

IFLA 2013 Singapore External learning events: -Regional training: ASEAN conferences, workshops, other meetings. -International training: services promotion, relevant library work.

International Forum on Human Library development for ASEAN External learning events:  Regional training: ASEAN conferences, workshops, other meetings.  International training: services promotion, relevant library work experience.

III. Challenges:  Limitation of professional librarian IV. Future Plans:  To enhance the technical knowledge of librarian through internal and external training, workshops, meetings and conferences.  To continue training between the HSL staff and HSL staff (peer education).

IV. Future Plans (2)  To find support for librarians to work on the digitized collection, especially Education Resource Center (ERC).  To motivate the staff to develop themselves through self learning, reading, and research.  To send staff to learning relevant subjects such as English, & computer skills which are very useful in library work

Priorities & Conclusion  Development of our human resources the first priority for professional librarians  To reach the “ONE ASEAN, One Destiny”,  More participation by HSL staff in local and overseas workshops, training, conferences and sharing experiences are necessary.
