Monkey Island Chapter 4 “Escaping Notice”

1. Who did Clay meet in front of the hotel?  Tony

2. What word was written on the inside of the elevator?  STOP

3. Do you think Tony might have been abused? Why or why not?  Yes, because he had a bad bruise on his face and he talked about how his dad had a bad temper.

4. Why did Clay add to the graffiti to the word “Stop”?  “He didn’t know what he meant by it…it made him feel like a spy, his mark was stronger than all the other words.”~p.48

5. Why did Clay think that his mother, as well as his father had left him?  His father couldn’t bear losing everything after he lost his job. Maybe that was the reason his mother left too.

6. What did Clay buy at Abdul’s?  He bought two packages of cheese and peanut butter crackers, a soda, and a coconut bar.

7. Why did Clay go back to the park?  He needed a place to sit down, and he did not feel so alone with Buddy and Calvin.

8. Why didn’t Clay try to get help from Social Service?  Clay wouldn’t be able to look for his mother anymore. He was afraid that if he went to a foster home, she would never find him.

9. What did Buddy find? What did he do with it? What did he receive in return?  Buddy found a ladies wallet in a garbage can.  He contacted information and got the lady’s telephone number. He called the number, and the lady’s husband made arrangements to get the wallet back.  The man gave Buddy $35 for his kindness and honesty.
