Introduction to ECTS Dr Anthony John Vickers, CPhys, MInstP, CEng, FIET UK Bologna Expert Day 1 Introduction to ECTS: This will be a short presentation outlining the activities of the training programme through out the week. The emphasis will be on active learning through participation. Day 2 The Bologna Process: On the second day Dr Vickers will introduce the participants to the wider prospective of international Higher Education by looking at the historic development of the Bologna Process and then working through the 10 action lines of the Bologna Process, using examples of implementation experienced by Dr Vickers.

Day 3 Credits versus no credits: On this third day we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of credit based systems compared to credit free systems. After an introduction by Dr Vickers the participants will divide into two groups. One group will develop and explore the +/- of a credit based system. The other group will do the same for a credit free system. Each group will appoint a rapporteur who will present the finding of their group after the one hour group discussion period. Conclusions will then be drawn. Day 4 Elements of ECTS: This day will be used to introduce the participants to the various elements of ECTS. The speaker will develop with the audience an understanding of workload, learning outcomes, grading, information, and student involvement. These topics will be further developed in the later training sessions.

Day 5 Overcoming obstacles: The last day will explore the various obstacles that can be met in the process of implementing a credit system.
