Training  Training can be defined as the process of providing opportunities for workers to acquire employment-related skills and knowledge

Induction training  It is training aimed at introducing new employees to the organization. Such as training programme may require a new recruit to:  Meet key personnel, such as the employee´s line manager and departmental team members  Tour the premises including the recruit’s main work space or area

Induction training  Learn about their new job role and other relevant duties and procedures  Look at the company policies and practices, such as the health and safety policy and fire evacuation procedure of the firm

On-the-job-training  It refers to training carried out whilst at the workplace. For example: the training can be delivered by a head of departmenrt or other specialist

Off-the-job-trainming  It refers to training carried out off-site, such as at a tertiary college or hotel conference room

Dismisal and redundancy  Dismissal: means the termination of a worker’s employment due to incompetence (unsatisfactory perfomance)  Incompetence : The employee may lack ability, qualifictions  Misconduct: The employee may exhibit unacceptable behabiour, such as being constantly late for work  Gross misconduct: Bad behaviour

Dismisal and redundancy  Redundancy: occurs when the employer can no longer afford to employ the worker or when the job ceases to exist. For example: many retail workers are hired temporaly during the busy trading period prior to Christmas but after laid-off (made redundant).  Voluntary and Compulsory redundancy

Changing employment patterns and practices  In modern societes, there have been a number of observable changes in employment patterns and work practices, such as the increase in the number of people working from home

Flexible work structures  Handy´s theory of the shamrock organization suggest that business will increasingly use fewer core staff in order to improve their flexibility, For example; forms are increasing, using consultants and outsourcing projects  Flexible working patterns will have many consequences for workforce planning, recruitment and training, including:  Organizational restructuring

Flexible work structures  Changing recruitment practices; firms shift to hiring more flexible workers  Retention of core staff: key employees of an organization will need to be recruited for their outstanding skills and experience  Training: forms will be less likely to invest in training, except for the core staff. However, there will be preassures for staff to be constantly updating their skills

Flexible work structures  Teleworking: refers to working away from the employers or customers by using electronic forms of communication, such as telephone, fax and . It has come popular in the USA, CANADA; UK etc.  Home working is the category of teleworking which refers to people actually working from their own home
