The Body in Motion Year 10 Physical Education Term 3

Unit Aim: To introduce students to basic biomechanical and physiological principles as they relate to human movement (physical activity). To allow students to investigate and utilise these principles in various sporting contexts.

What is Biomechanics?  is the study of what makes the body move, and looks at the results of that movement.  is the study of the human body in movement  It looks at the forces that act on the body and the effects of those forces on the body.

Why Year 10 ?  Outline that all human movement in all physical activities and sports incorporate a variety of biomechanical and physiological principles and concepts – science in sport!  Aim is to introduce these concepts and principles so that those students taking Level 1 NCEA Physical Education ( Year 11 ) will be familiar with them.

Sport Case Study: Students are to choose a sport that they have an interest in or actively participate in. They are to gather an image of a person actively involved in the game and attach it to the case study document Students are required to outline and explain in detail how 4 biomechanical principles are utilised within any skill or activity within the chosen sport. ie –Rowing – levers / 3 rd class lever.

Points will be allocated: 1st = 4 2nd = 3 3rd = 2 4th = 1
