Research and Development To develop and establish the ‘would like to meet’ proposal that emerged from last Year’s Teaching School Research and Development Project. To establish a Teaching School Alliance Lead research group exploring the significance for whole school literacy of Ron Berger’s Learning critiques (An Ethic of Excellence )

Research and Development We will aim to have three meetings over the course of the year. Prospective dates: – Pre-Christmas: 29 November – Pre-Easter: 4-8 March – Post Easter: 6-17 May Extended meeting

Research and Development - The Big Picture We hope to develop an easy to use Internet hub for research on which staff across the alliance can post suggestions for research and express an interest in becoming involved. One possible idea would be to use an area on the Teaching School Alliance website for this. Research proposals could be extensions from already existing action research within schools.

Research and Development - The Big Picture As a second strand to the ‘would like to meet’ aspect of the research and development group it is proposed that we consider a yearly focus for a single shared areas of investigation that can be explored across the Teaching School Alliance. As the Research and Development project becomes established this year, it is imagined that these areas for investigation will emerge organically from the work of the group. However, in the first instance it is proposed that Ron Berger’s Learning critiques (an ethic of excellence) forms a area of lead investigation with its potential to unite colleagues across schools, and the curriculum, to begin this process this year.

Research and Development - The Big Picture We recognise that the work of such groups is already time consuming so wish to generate a straightforward key findings sheet that is simple and quick to complete without compromising quality. This is likely to be an A4/A3 academic poster. This can be electronically generated and posted on the alliance website at the end of the academic cycle.

Research and Development - The Big Picture First Meeting proposed ‘agenda’: – Invite people from the Teaching Schools Alliance – Invites to be sent at the end of October – What areas of investigation/practice would staff like to develop/research? Next Steps: – Establish an area on the website – Earmark the people we want to contact in November. – Liaise with the T and L group to avoid clashes in terms of dates.
