MACRO-SYSTEM EXO-SYSTEM MESO-SYSTEM MICRO- SYSTEM

 The micro-system is the inner most layer of Brofenbrenner’s model of the ecological Map.  It contains “ face-to-face settings with which the children are involved ” (Bowes & Grace, 2009, pg 8), which thus, are the most direct influences on the child.  “Settings are seen to influence children not only through their physical features and activities, but through the personality and belief systems of people in those settings” (Bowes & Grace, 2009, pg 8)

 CATHOLIC SCHOOL, LOCAL AREA  TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED  PARENTS DIVORCED  LIVES WITH MUM  MODERATE SOCIO-ECONOMIC- STATUS  HAS A PART-TIME JOB  PLAYS IN SOCCER TEAM

 The meso-system is the next layer outside the micro-system. This system reflects the “ interrelationships between settings in which the child actively participates” (Bowes & Grace, 2009, pg 8), that is, the connections between the various activities and contexts of the child.

 RELIGIOUS BELIEFS = CATHOLICISM  SINGLE PARENT= FULL TIME JOB  LOCAL SCHOOL= EASY ACCESS  ITALIAN HERITAGE

 The next layer of the model is the exo-system. This system influences the individual, however, from a distance, as there is no direct involvement with the characteristics of this layer. (Bowes & Grace, 2009)  It shows the “ linkages between two or more settings.” (Bowes & Grace, 2009, pg 8)

 GOVERNMENT  “SINGLE PARENT PENSION”  MOTHER CAN AFFORD TO SEND SON TO CATHOLIC SCHOOL  MOTHER IS SECTRETARY AT/ PLAYS FOR LOCAL SOCCER CLUB

 The macro-system is the broadest and outer-most layer of the ecological map. It contains the “ broad societal or cultural contexts,…set of values or cultural belief systems around which life in a society is organised” (Bowes & Grace, 2009, pg 8)  Influences are often on a global scale.

 GLOBAL ECONOMIC RECESSION  MULTICULTURALISM IN AUSTRALIA  “GENERATION Y”  MILGEN, GLOBILISATION, TECHNOLOGY
