DO NOW!! AGENDA  CW#6 finding irregular volume  Lw#3 Volume by displacement DUE Friday Hw #5 Science Skills Week 5: Thursday Sept 10, 2015 Set up your next blank notebook page as shown below Lw #3 Finding volume by displacement Purpose: Learn the proper procedure for calculating the volume of an object by displacement OBJECTS TESTEDINITIAL VOLUME OF WATER (mL) FINAL VOLUME OF WATER (mL) VOLUME OF WATER DISPLACED (mL) VOLUME OF OBJECT (CM 3 ) DATA TABLE: VOLUME OF IRREGULAR-SHAPED SOLIDS You will be measuring 8 objects

Lw # 3 Finding Volume by Displacement Keep the beaker on the blue tray to avoid dripping on the table Place fingers over the GC when emptying the water to avoid breaking the beaker Make sure you answer the ANALYSIS questions in complete sentences that restate the question.

Clean-up Procedures 1.Empty the water from the GC into the beakers 2.Place ALL 8 objects in the plastic container 3.Place all materials on the blue tray 4.Place blue tray on front table 5.Stack green lab sheets in the “hands-free” zone at the end of your table 6.Continue working on CW #6 Metric Measurement

2. How do you measure the volume of a RECTANGULAR SOLID??  Use a ruler  Use the equation (L x W x H) 6 x 3 x 6 = x 6 x 3 = x 6 x 6 = 108 It doesn’t matter what order!!

2. How do you measure the volume of a RECTANGULAR SOLID??  To determine VOLUME you MULTIPLY THE SIDES (L x W x H)

10 cm 9 cm 8 cm We can measure the volume of regular object using the formula length x width x height. _____ X _____ X _____ = _____ COPY THEN ANSWER! 2. How do you measure the volume of a RECTANGULAR SOLID?

RECTANGULAR volume is measured in CUBIC CENTIMETERS ( cm 3 ) 1cm 1 cm x 1 cm x 1 cm = 1 cm 3

even irregular solids are measured in cm 3 1 milliliter = 1 cubic centimeter (cm 3 ) or 1 c.c. 1 ml = 1 c.c. 1cm
