Canned Food Drive Together We “Can” Do IT

Identifying Need We will increase awareness of hunger in South Jersey by participating in continued canned food collection efforts. Hunger in South Jersey  In 2009, The Food Bank of South Jersey, in collaboration with Feeding America™, assisted in a national Hunger Study in which more than 61,000 individuals who were at risk of hunger and/or food insecurity were interviewed.

Findings Include:  40% of clients served by The Food Bank of South Jersey report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel  36% had to choose between paying for food and paying their rent or mortgage  34% had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care

Possible School Wide Projects  Returning a can of food with each report card.  Collecting a can/cans as admission to a school sponsored concert.  Beck can serve as a community drop off.  Kids can make posters and winning poster will be advertised in the community
