The Real Jamestown When? Where? Who?

What does our textbook say about Pocahontas saving John Smith? Page 159 In 1607, members of the Powhatan tribe captured John Smith and took him to Chief Powhatan. Smith believed that he was going to be killed, but Pocahontas kept him from being harmed. This famous event was probably just acted out as ceremony, but no one is sure.

What does the video clip say?

What does the textbook say about the first winter of Jamestown? Page 156 Jamestown was a poor choice for a settlement. The swampy land was not good for farming. The colonists had no interest in farming anyway. Most came to Virginia to find gold and get rich. No one bothered to plant or gather food. More than half the colonists died the first year.
