ASSIGNMENT 2 (25%) This is a group activity(3 to 4 people per group) Each presentation is about 15-20 minutes. Assignment 2 is based on a survey. You must complete 2 separate tasks. Deadline : 27 APRIL 2012  

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation The oral presentation (Task 1) is based on a survey. Before the presentation Select a topic for your survey. Determine the objectives of your survey Prepare a questionnaire(using open and close questions) Distribute questionnaires(min 20 respondents) Analyze the data Prepare PowerPoint slides to present survey findings Practice your presentation.

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation Before the presentation Your questionnaire should include: a)Yes/No questions(close ended questions) i)E.g. of a bad question Are you satisfied with the bus services in UPM? ii)E.g. of a good question Are you satisfied with the frequency of the bus services in UPM? .

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation During the presentation Present task 1 in front of an audience in your centre. Begin by introducing yourself and group members. Make sure you are standing and are facing the audience. The presentation is to include the use of PowerPoint slides and should be video-recorded.(focus your camera on the presenter as well as the AVA used). Each person should speak for 3-5 minutes. Save the video recording of your presentation in avi or wmv format.

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation The presentation format: Introduction – greeting and introduction of group members and topic Background of the survey – research method, sample population, problems encountered if any. The findings Conclusion / Recommendations to improve the survey/ Summary of findings

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation Research methods Explain the methods used. Eg: questionnaire. State the objectives/purpose of the research. Sample Population Explain the type of population/respondents used. (Eg: the race, age group, social status, occupation, gender, whether chosen randomly or non-randomly and etc.)

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation The Findings Analyze the data in your survey. Use photos, pie charts, tables, line graphs, bar graphs, and etc. when doing your analysis. Provide logical reasons/assumptions to support each analysis.

ASSIGNMENT 2 Task 1-Oral Presentation Example of findings: Q1: How many hours do you sleep in a day? Analysis Most students(10 students) had less than 6 hours of sleep and this is probably because they have many assignments to do and have very little time to sleep.(Mention this orally, but do not put this in your slides) No of students Sleeping Hours 10 students <6 hours 6 students 6-8 hours 4 students > 8 hours

ASSIGNMENT 2 TASK 2-INTERVIEW Prepare suitable interview questions (open questions and close questions). Interact with your respondent (2 way interaction)and do not ask only close questions. Conduct and videotape your interviews – every member to conduct one interview for 3-4 minutes each. Save the video recording in avi or wmv format.

ASSIGNMENT 2 Checklist for Things to submitted to PPL (UPMET). CD with: (i). video recording of your group presentation in avi or wmv format. (ii). video clips of your interviews in avi or wmv format. Label each file with member’s name (iii). PowerPoint slides   Note: Write members’ names and contact numbers clearly on the CD and send it in a hard casing. 10 copies of answered questionnaires. Use the standard PPL (UPMET) cover page for assignments.

ASSIGNMENT 2 Evaluation Marks will be given for content, organization, pronunciation, intonation, language, and non-verbal communication strategies during the oral presentation and the interview. Marks will also be given for AVA. The whole group will get the same marks for AVA and content, but each member of the group will be evaluated individually for delivery and language. Deadline: 27 APRIL 2012
