EOC Test Security Issues (State) Primary causes year Accommodations not provided correctly. Students not tested in retests. Test prep materials included test items. Policy allows for retest on tests high stakes for students paid for by school ($350 per test) prior to next scheduled testing administration. LEAP grades 4 and 8 ELA and Mathematics GEE and LAA 2 grades 10 and 11 EOC tests (except US History until December 2013) 3

EOC Test Security Issues End of the Course (EOC) issues –Lack of monitoring during EOC (especially retests) –Items were copied and shared with students testing at a later date. –Students copied from other students’ monitors 4

Test Security Issues Unauthorized access to electronic devices –Discovered two ways: During scoring –Common responses discovered in same format and language. –In some cases, students actually indicated the website. –Advanced language indicated possibility of use of outside source (e.g., online college textbook, research papers) Teacher observing students accessing devices during testing. 5

Spring 2014 Added Security Locks During Testing PHASE 2 TESTING –Various schools will have their secured testing area “double locked”. –Test monitors assigned to the school will unlock and lock the test materials daily. –Test monitors will stay at the school the entire day. 6

STATE Monitoring During Testing Monitor’s Role – Observing testing – Documenting observations – Notifying LDOE of issues requiring immediate attention NOT Monitor’s Role – Assisting in testing including supervision of students or materials – Answering questions regarding testing – Providing immediate feedback to schools 7

DISTRICT Monitoring During Testing DISTRICT monitors will be in the schools during all phases of testing. Monitor’s Role – Observing testing – Conducting interviews – Documenting observations – Notifying JPPSS of issues requiring immediate attention NOT Monitor’s Role – Assisting in testing including supervision of students or materials – Answering questions regarding testing – Providing immediate feedback to schools 8

Monitor Responsibilities Silence your cell phone. Arrive at least 30 minutes before students arrive. Please refrain from speaking to students and test administrators during test session. 9
