SIMS Teacher Comments

What’s new? SIMS Teacher Comments  Completely rewritten to address the new curriculum from EYFS – KS3  At EYFS both individual and summative comments for  Working towards ELG attainment  Attained ELG  Exceeding ELG  At KS1-3 subject and subject areas aligned to new programmes of study  Levels replaced with comparative reporting statements  At KS1 – 2 more emphasis on core subjects  Will align to International Curriculum if required

What are they and what do they do SIMS Teacher Comments are a selection of thousands of curriculum-based and general comments designed to inspire high quality report writing. They reflect fully the changes in curriculum for 2014 Written by teachers and modelled on best practice our comments are proven to improve quality and save valuable time without compromising on the individuality of each report.  Make report writing easier and less stressful  Save up to 30 minutes per report  Harness and share good practice across all teaching staff  Improve parental engagement by providing high quality, meaningful and constructive reports for each individual that can also be displayed online via SLG

Teacher comments for every stage  Comments for all years and abilities  KS1  KS2  KS3  KS4  Import to SIMS Profiles in seconds  Copy and rename as appropriate  Specific teachers and their classes are associated to the appropriate comments ensuring focused report writing

Comment banks are divided into ‘Areas’  Divided into areas which mirror curriculum objectives for each Key Stage  An area is provided for schools that wish to export comment selections to Word to create graphical images (see later slides)  Area names can be changed  Areas can easily be merged, split or additional ones added

Areas divide into ‘Sections’  General comments, including personal and social development, have an important place when reporting to parents  SIMS Teacher Comments contain up to 200 comments in sections in this key area  There is a section for schools that wish to export comment selections to Word to create graphical images (see later slides)  This is a place where many schools add their own comments to reflect the ethos and specific learning objectives of the school

Reporting National Curriculum subjects  Reports to parents meet the requirements specified by the Department of Education  Introductions are edited to describe the students’ learning experiences  Comments on achievement match NC objectives  Next Steps inform parents of the direction of learning  Each subject contains ideas to help engage parents in their child’s learning

Comments are contained in the sections  Each section contains the comments. There is no limit to the number of comments in the software but grids and OMR entries do have limits  These contain the markers to substitute Name, He/She, his/her and so on  It is here that editing or adding of comments can be done

Report writing in SIMS – 1  With SIMS on your PC or tablet, writing reports to parents becomes a much easier task  You can select comments and watch the report build into a fluent and informative document

Report writing in SIMS – 2 and 3  Many teachers prefer to enter a comment reference on a grid  This method is used if schools choose to let teachers complete OMR sheets  Grid entry directly into SIMS sees the reports build on screen

Editing selected comments  Whether done as the report is being written or after all reports are completed, any and every comment may be edited with teachers’ own words  Part or full sentences may be added or parts of the original comments deleted  THIS IS THE POWER OF SIMS TEACHER COMMENTS

Clear, concise, constructive reports  Embed comments into a Word document to facilitate graphs and images  Comments to produce these graph style images are included in the SIMS Teacher Comments  Design as you wish, create amazing reports by embedding the comments into a Word document

SIMS Teacher Comments Inspiring quality reporting to parents
