PURPOSETYPES OF ARTILLERY  Big, heavy weapons  Artillery is used mainly in war/s for attacking and defending from the enemies  Long range artillery was first invented by Reed in 1600s.  Canons, short and long rifles, shotgun, machine guns, air bombs, Gases ( mustard gas for example), Sub Marines hand grenades, and so on.....

 Some Artilleries used in war were mustard gas, if you inhaled it without a gasmask it would cause the lungs to liquefy and death came quickly. Both sides of trenches did not use mustard gas because if the wind blew in their direction it would affect their own men.  A submarine was an effective warship, it was a good self-propelled underwater missile.  The Americans used the shotgun during war, it had a great effect on clearing away the trenches of the Germans.  Machine guns fired bullets. It was very effective because it could wipe out soldiers that crossed no mans land.

 The first design/invention of the machine gun was by Leonardo Da VinciLeonardo Da Vinci  The first cannon in Europe was probably used in Iberia, during the Reconquista, in the 13th century.first cannon in Europe IberiaReconquista  The first cannon were siege engines, throwing heavy stones like the catapults and trebuchets.  Colonel Henry Shrapnel -It was he who invented the exploding shell.  Why artillery Cannons do not exist since tanks were invented? Tanks can be easily mobilized and can do the jobs of the cannons.
