Sequins, Secrets and Silver Lining By Sophie Bennett

About Sequins, Secrets and Silver Lining is the first book from the Thread series. It’s about three girls(Nonie, Jenny and Edie) in London helps a refugee from Uganda to embrace her inner talent in fashion designing.

Nonie Nonie is the narrator of the book. She has an amazing and very unique sense of style. Her fashion choices are very bold which causes her to be distinguished from the crowd in the fashion perspective. She is very self- conscious about herself not having high cheek bones. Nonie

Jenny Jenny is one of Nonie’s best friends. She is a talented young actress and stars in a movie called Kids Code. She is a very pretty girl when put into the right dress. To Nonie’s surprise, Jenny has cheek bones.

Edie Edie is a very hardworking and intelligent girl that is determined to go to a very good college(Harvard or Oxford will be ideal) and find a job in the United Nation. The realistic and smart one of the group, almost everything Edie does is related to making her college application look impressive.

Crow Crow is a refugee from Uganda that is awfully talented in fashion designing. Her inspirations are strongly influenced by Dior. Her family sent her to London so she can escape the dangers of what her hometown might bring her. Her brother is kidnapped by an army, and possibly being forced to kill other people or already got killed.

Other Characters The other smaller characters are Nonie’s Granny, James Lamogi, Grace Lamogi, Henry, Harry, Amanda, Andy Elat, Svetlana, The three b*****,Mum and Victoria.

About the Author Sophie Bennett is the author of the book. She lives in London, England with her husband and children. She won the 2009 Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Award for this book.
