SGA’s Purpose To develop closer communication among the student body of Miami-Dade County’s senior high schools on matters that we all care about. To then communicate those concerns to representatives of senior high school students and the School Board and/or central administration, with the general goal of improving the welfare of all students. To provide students with opportunities for leadership, personal growth, self discipline, and responsible citizenship. To encourage students to become involved with the school board- the agency that most affects students.

Membership in SGA Membership will consist of the student government presidents of Miami-Dade County’s public senior high schools. Student government vice-presidents will be considered ex- officio members. Each participating school will be entitled to one voting delegate for each meeting. That person will be the individual school association president, or in the event of his/her absence, the school vice-president, or other designee.

SGA’s Two Branches Executive: 6 Executive Board members (President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Legislative Liaison, and the Student Representative to the School Board) Legislative- The Senate (School site SGA president or designee)

SGA’s Mission To present students with opportunities to become civically active in the community. To encourage and model the responsible exercise of students’ rights. To be a united voice that is worthy of the authority that students have.

Goals Increase awareness and participation in SGA meetings and activities. Increase the understanding that the District SGA represents all students in MDCPS and therefore, deserves to be heard. Increase student knowledge and comprehension of issues that affect them on the local, state, national, and global levels.

SGA Goals (cont.) To continue to be an advocate for students in MDCPS. To hold our annual spring student conference. To continue to influence legislation at the state level that affects students.

Goals (cont.) To develop an SGA District blog in order to increase interaction To develop an network for students To continue to be involved in local organizations that positively affect the lives of students in MDCPS. To become affiliated with SGA at the state and/or national level.

To develop a District SGA website to increase ease of communication efforts to schools; To develop and implement an annual campaign that promotes an awareness of an issue affecting all students; and Reinstate our long-standing tradition of organizing “Meet Your Board Member” meetings for each school board member.
