The Basic Assignment Students form groups of 4-6. Students are tasked to go on a Mini-Adventure – Examples include Bidwell Park Butte College Wildlife Refuge Local Disc Golf Courses Chico Community Observatory Bidwell Mansion Honey Run Covered Bridge
The Basic Assignment Continued… Using camera phones, digital cameras, etc… students document their adventure. Post mini-adventure students meet to discuss photos captured. I like to use some in-class time. Collaboratively they create narratives surrounding their images. The following prompts can be helpful: – What story does this photo tell you? – What is going on outside this photo? – What theme does this photo fall into? Why?
Creating a PhotoVoiceThread Students sign up for free VoiceThread Accounts. Photos from the mini-adventure are uploaded to VoiceThread. Students tell the stories they created for their photos. – 10 narrated photos for a group of 5 – 4-5 minutes of storytelling per student
Submission Options: – Assignment (viewed by instructor) – Discussion Board or Blog (viewed by class) Choice leads to different presentations – Assignments tend to be more personal – Open content = more selective self-presentation
