Friday 3/3: Factory Systems Objective: Examine why the Industrial Revolution occurred in England the purpose of the factory system Bell Work: Do you think that most inventions / technology are created in response to people’s needs or because of people’s wants? Explain…

Factory System

Wage (Cottage) System Laborers would work at home or in the same room under supervision –Workers paid based on the hours worked OR the amount of goods produced –Higher pay for men than women & children Why?

Factory System the production of goods in a factory through the use of machines and a large number of workers –Instead of needing to learn the process of making an entire product, workers needed to learn a single skill in the process –Women & children typically worked for less pay than men –Few opportunities for workers to advance within the factory

Factory Vs. Cottage System Simulation ½ of the class will work as if in a factory –Each group member will be responsible for assembling one part of the product ½ of the class will work as the cottage system –Each student will be responsible for creating the entire product Who will produce the most? Who will produce better quality products? Lets find out!
