OUT OF HOURS INTENDING TRAINERS COURSE

DO WE CARE? WE DO NOW!

Out of hours competences Ability to manage common medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies. Understanding the organisational aspects of NHS out of hours care, nationally and at local level. The ability to make appropriate referral to hospitals and other professionals. The demonstration of communication and consultation skills required for out of hours care. Individual personal time and stress management. Personal & other staff security/ safety.

How much? MINIMUM 36 HOURS PER 6 MONTHS IF FULL TIME (TRY GETTING REGISTRARS TO DO MORE!) REDUCED PRO RATA IF LTFT SESSIONS TO BE DONE BY THE PROVIDER FOR THE AREA WHERE THEIR TRAINING PRACTICE IS SITUATED

TRAFFIC LIGHTS GP Trainer with direct responsibility for the day to day work of the training must: Ensure that the trainee's hours are EWTD compliant … Payback/Clawback Allow attendance at OOH induction When you have observed a trainee for long enough to form an initial judgement, complete an OOH3, OOH4 or OOH5 form to inform the OOH provider as to what level of supervision that the trainee requires. As a trainee progresses, you should issue a new form so that most trainees would be expected to be green at the end of their first post.OOH3OOH4OOH5 The trainee is responsible for giving the form to the Provider. Inform the trainee’s Educational Supervisor and the OOH Provider about any concerns with regard to the trainee's performance and competence … And the Programme no doubt

TRAFFIC LIGHTS A Trainer may wish to record additional information onto the form which may help to inform the OOH provider and supervisor eg the Trainee consults at X minutes. The Trainee needs a higher level of supervision for mental health problems.

HOW TO RECORD ON THE EPORTFOLIO A SEPARATE LOG ENTRY FOR EACH SESSION TITLE OF LOG ENTRY TO INCLUDE TYPE OF SESSION/TRAFFIC LIGHT/DURATION/RUNNING TOTAL FEEDBACK FORM FROM OOH SUPERVISOR TO BE ATTACHED LINKED TO OOH IN LEARNING LOG

FINAL ARCP PANEL ES TO COMPLETE ‘OVERVIEW’ FORM REGISTRAR TO COMPLETE A LOG ENTRY AND ATTACH THIS FORM ES CAN STATE THAT THEY HAVE COMPLETED OOH AS LONG AS THEY KNOW THAT ANY SHORTFALL AT THE TIME OF THE PANEL HAS BEEN BOOKED … AND MUST BE COMPLETED

ORGANISATION It is the responsibility of the TRAINEE to arrange their Out Of Hours Sessions. The Programme will forward to each provider a list of those trainees accessing their service. The list will include the trainee’s address as notified to the Programme Office.

INDUCTION Before trainees are able to undertake Out of Hours sessions they must attend an Induction. They also require accounts to be created, to enable them to access the provider’s IT system. The following documentation must be supplied by trainees: GMC certificate Safeguarding children certificate (Level 2) – required by NDUC … Level 3 if doing Green Shifts … BLS/AED/ALS … with dates as per Traffic Light Form Medical Indemnity Performers list inclusion Signed computer policy acceptance form Again, it is the trainee’s responsibility to ensure that this is satisfactorily completed to enable them to begin their Sessions.

INTEGRATED TRAINING POSTS REGISTRAR TO DO OOH SESSIONS UNLESS DOING ON CALL FOR THE OTHER PART OF THE POST

CAUTION A trainee who has done all of their shifts within a short time frame may be asked to undertake additional sessions to demonstrate that they have maintained their Competencies.

N.B. Give adequate notice if unable to attend. Late notice of non-attendance puts patient safety at risk. Non-attendance without notice will be regarded as a negative probity indicator and may result in referral to the GMC. Providers should inform CS and Programme of this.

FORMS AND NOW A FEW FORMS TO FINISH WITH…
