Assignment 1A Evelyn Liu Hombroich Museum, Langen Foundation, Neuss, Germany,. Architect: Tadao Ando Narrative: Architect Tadao Ando carefully plays with the amount of natural and artificial light within the Hombroich Museum to reveal delicate architectural details.

Exterior Render of Building, showing the use of water as a material to reflected light revealing the form of the building.

Exterior Render of Building, shows light penetrating the glass area of the building highlighting the use of slender steel column detailing.

Interior Render Main Gallery Front Render shows sunlight hitting the concrete wall revealing the intricate details of the concrete panels

Interior Render of Glass Walkway: Render shows daylight entering the building, creating lines of shadows which reveal the light steel structural elements of the building

Interior Render of Ramp Down to Underground Galleries: Render shows daylight creating contrast between light and shadow which reveals a ramps slow decent underground.

Interior Render of Main Gallery Space Render shows direct sunlight penetration accentuating buildings slender columns in comparison to diffused daylight from internal skylight in gallery space

Render of Large Exterior Staircase: Render shows the illumination of panels, columns and stair details by direct sunlight into the outdoors staircase space

Render of Gallery and Outdoor staircase: Render shows the relationship between gallery and outdoor space, highlighting the difference between lighting levels showing how certain architectural elements are emphasised by degree of lighting.

Interior Render of Staircase: Render shows daylight penetrating the building highlighting the detail of the concrete wall formwork as well as window details

Interior Render of Underground Gallery Space: Render shows much softer diffused natural lighting through the use of a translucent skylight in gallery space

Interior Render of Gallery Space with Ramp: Render showing the use of day-lighting through the use of a long strip of skylight. Long skylight helps reinforce the horizontal axis created by the ramp.

Sectional Perspective of Building: Render shows the different levels of light penetration throughout the building. In particular the difference between the underground gallery space where skylights are used, and ground level glass area where direct sunlight is used. At underground part of the building there are two gallery spaces both lit by a long strip pf skylight running through the length of the building. These skylights limit the amount of daylight into each space and provide natural lighting without glare. The main gallery on ground level is surrounded by a glass area Which receives an abundance of natural sunlight and daylight. Daylight into the gallery space however, is limited through the use of few openings and skylight. The use of day-lighting helps to reveal various interesting architectural details within the Museum.
