Today’s Objectives  To provide peer feedback to your “No Name Woman” essays.  To understand, apply, and present assigned “rhetorical strategies”

Rhetorical Analysis Essay  Maxine Hong Kingston reflects on the life of her aunt, a relative who committed suicide after giving birth to an illegitimate child. Write an essay analyzing how Kingston’s language conveys her attitude toward her aunt.

Peer Feedback Line-Up Step 1: Trade your rough draft with a partner. Step 2: Annotate it with the following marks: –* for interesting ideas –? for unclear ideas –E for more specific/persuasive evidence needed –C for more explicit commentary needed Step 3: After you annotate, please write the following at the end of the rough draft: –2 things the writer does well –2 suggestions for improvement

Rhetorical Strategies  You will be divided into groups  Each group will be in charge of learning and understanding a rhetorical strategy  You will create a poster that defines the strategy clearly, provides an example from “No Name Woman,” applies the strategy to a slogan, and provides a visual image.

Roles  Facilitator: Read the directions and make sure everyone in the group is participating  Resource Manager: Procures the necessary materials for the assignment and the poster; manages the group’s time.  Recorder: Designs a mock-up poster that must be cleared by Mr. Rivera first.  Reporter: Presents the poster to the class.  N.B. If you are a group of three, the Resource Manager and Recorder will be the same person.
