Southeast Asia Group report Steve Roecker Nano Seber Fauzi Humayun Akhter Ray Durrheim

Identification of the problem establish seismic network Encourage the member countries in ASEAN and Indian Ocean to establish new station Funding for sustainability of the networks –How to make use of the networks and valuable to funding agencies (government, or other sponsors) Equipment –Guide to develop and evaluate seismic stations –Regular Training in seismology, instrumentation, Database and Metadata –Guide to support routine operation, data exchange and system communication Software –Exchange format of the waveform data and processing ; Bangladesh; antelope (temporary) and PQL to view do not have permanent processing facilities. Thailand (nanometrics, Earthworm, Seiscomp2.5) –Indonesia; Setup the processing facilities for digital accelerograph, producing or updating PGA map and earthquake risk map

Identification of the problem society needs Society responds promptly on the issue of prediction to the earthquake generated tsunami Mismanagement or late response of local authorities –No SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) on society needs on earthquake disasters and tsunami warning message Tsunami Drill in Indonesia; 26 december –2005; in West Sumatra, Indonesia; general public and student –2006; in Bali, Indonesia; student and tourist facilities –2007; in Banten, Indonesia; student, tourist and industries facilities –2008; in all Indonesian region; to initiate and stimulate local government response on preparedness and awareness Bangladesh: People were upset and complained about staying in the shelter for long period of time in the night after ending of tsunami threat.

Identification of the problem scientific New network, more data available –Open to have new scientific value in the region –who is going to do this, and how –Applied geophysics or seismology is more popular than pure one in universities Introduce the seismic network and all networks for tsunami warning to universities in Indonesia (28 Universities; 2006, 2007). BMG set up 3 seismograph in 3 universities –How to continue to attract attention and arrange their program for seismology

Suggestion and recommendation for IRIS and Universities in the US Join the working group 1 (seismic network) of IOTWS Arrange a strategic training for IOTWS member state on the regular training on the data management and instrumentation Urge Universities in the US to work together with one University as a pilot on development program in Seismology
