School Committee Presentation May 21, 2012 by Karl Braun – Director of Athletics and Physical Education (Outgoing) Education (Outgoing) Eric Foley – Director of Athletics and Physical Education (Incoming) Education (Incoming) THE STATE OF ATHLETICS & PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PLYMOUTH NORTH HIGH SCHOOL)

THE ENEMY OF GREAT IS GOOD! “Good is the enemy of Great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We don’t have great schools, principally because we have good schools. We don’t have great government, principally because we have good government. Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.” Jim Collins “Good to Great” Our PE & Athletic Departments are Very Good – We Strive to Make Them Great!!

OUR TEACHERS PCIS – Sarah Procaccini, Erin Callahan, Emily Manion, Andy Daigle, Kevin Cobban, Seto Musari-Berry PNHS – Evan Paris, Eric Foley, Bill Drew, Jane Burt, Lauren Anderson OUR GOALS Curriculum & Consistency Develop organized curriculum map for Physical Education Align PE curriculum to State and National Standards Develop unit plans for curriculum PHYSICAL EDUCATION

1. BE THE BEST PERSON YOU CAN BE:  We must demand from each other that we be the best person we can be with regard to character, honor and integrity. The player/coach must realize that his/her actions while a member of the Plymouth North Athletic Programs are a direct reflection on the entire School. 2. BE THE BEST STUDENT YOU CAN BE:  Athletic participation is a privilege and school is a priority! We must demand from ourselves that we do everything in our power to succeed in school. We must strive to do our best academically and behaviorally – we are leaders in our school. 3. BE THE BEST PLAYER YOU CAN BE:  We must strive to become the best players/coaches we can possibly be. Be 100% prepared! Remember this : if you are not working to be your best – someone else out there is, and when you meet them on the playing field – they will win. Plymouth North “THREE POINT PHILOSOPHY”

 The Plymouth North High School Athletic Programs have committed to teaching its athletes the importance of civic responsibility. All 25 athletic teams participate in a community service project each year. Our values include:  Strong Character : “Being the Best Person you can Be”  Compassion : “Caring, Community and Love”  Sense of Pride: “There is more to athletics than wins and losses”  Building Relationships: “positive relationships in the community" The Character of a School is Determined by the Character of its Students Plymouth North Athletics COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
