Conquistador- Spanish soldiers who led military expeditions in the Americas.

Hernan Cortes- the conquistador that would conquer the Aztec empire.

Montezuma II-leader of the Aztecs when Cortez invaded Cortez would kill him and conquer the Aztec empire.

Francisco Pizarro- Spanish conquistador who would conquer the Inca Empire with only 400 men.

Encomiende System- gave settlers the right to tax local Native Americans or make them work in exchange the settlers were supposed to protect the Native Americans and convert them to Christianity.

Plantations- large farms that grow just one kind of crop.

Bartolomé de las Casas- urged the Spanish to convert the Native Americans to Christianity by showing them love, gentleness, and kindness.
