GEO302P/UGS303 Environmental Action Projects  Earn 2-4 ‘off the couch’ portfolio credits by working 4-8 hours on one of 4 environmental action projects  With your powers combined!...make a real difference in the global issues we learn about in class by working in teams

Residence Hall Energy Challenge Work with the CEC’s Energy Task Force to help your neighbors save energy and save the planet -develop strategies to publicize those methods during the Energy Challenge from Nov. 1 st - 31 st - view and graph energy consumption numbers of each participating residence hall to determine energy savings gained during the challenge period - calculate the carbon footprint savings of each residence hall Tasks include: - research and list 7-10 ways to reduce energy impact in a community residence hall

EcoReps - Sign up to be an EcoRep or Residence Hall Conservation Coordinator in your residence hall for the semester - Research a list of green living tips you can encourage in your hall - Compile a sustainability assessment of your hall - Write a summary of your effectiveness and the impact of your initiatives in the residence hall Work with CEC’s EcoReps team to communicate with your neighbors about living green in the dorms Task include:

Ink Cartridge Recycling -Actively promote ink recycling in new locations -Research a typical ink life-cycle. Include what’s in different types of ink and how they affect the environment, as well a how much the US typically throws away. Work with the Campus Environmental Center’s Ink recycling program to learn about product cycles and the impacts of human consumption For this project you’ll: - volunteer as ink collector with the CEC - produce a brief report weighing negative and positive aspects of ink recycling

Sustainable Food Work with the Sustainable Food Center while learning about sustainable food distribution. For this project you’ll: - Contact a local area farmer through the Austin Farmers’ Market. - Determine that farmers input chain and make a map of it - Write a brief report comparing costs and benefits of local and organic produce - Write a brief report comparing costs and benefits of local and organic produce
