Gelato Focus and Purpose Research institutions –System researchers Encourage research and development of software that takes advantage of the Itanium architecture Promote Itanium as leading-edge technology Expand breath of contributions –Users, typically HPC Initial adopters of Itanium Create user community that can champion the platform Encourage sharing of tools, solutions, knowledge Linux –Often OS of choice for researchers, HPC –Encourages contributions: kernel through applications Bring together those improving Linux/ia64 and those using it

Gelato Portal Gelato.org is a central repository of knowledge for Linux on the Itanium Processor Family Platform. –Interact and collaborate with other world-leading researchers on important research problems –Post relevant news, information, and software –Download software for Itanium Linux

Technical Focus Areas Performance –Single system –Cluster Scalability –Single system –Cluster Parallel file systems Compilers

Reasons for Joining Gelato (membership) Be a part of the Linux Itanium community –Network with peers –Benefit from the expertise and experiences of developers, users and vendors –Collaborate with world-leading institutions Be a leader –Take advantage of Gelato to give visibility to your institution's work (e.g. the Gelato portal) –Contribute to the community through Gelato discussions and open source software –Have an opportunity to contribute to the Gelato direction and objectives Be on the leading edge –Get access to the latest software from member institutions

Reasons for Promoting Gelato (sponsorship) Create a community –Introduce users and researchers to peers –Increase the number of knowledgeable resources available to users –Generate goodwill –Success in community building with early adopters can be leveraged to other markets (e.g. enterprise) Get direct access to users and researchers –Understand user requirements –Influence and awareness of current research –Demonstrate Itanium commitment and leadership –Collaboration opportunities –Promote Itanium (and Linux) Expand Linux Itanium software portfolio –Encourage development, optimization and redistribution of software
