What Inspired Sonia Sotomayor Sonia grew up poor. She couldn’t speak English until she was 9. Her father past away when she was 9 by a heart attack. As a child Sonia read a lot of Nancy Drew detective stories and “Perry Mason” on TV. On one episode of “Perry Mason”, Sonia saw the prosecutor be overruled by the judge. Thus she concluded that the judge was the most important person in the room. She realized that the judge has to hear the case and make conclusions based on other peoples stories.
