2 FUNCTIONS FOR DIRECTORATE WS POLICY & STRATEGY DIRECTOR: ABRI VERMEULEN PURPOSE OF THE DIRECTORATE To develop policies and strategies for the sector that will enable sustainable development in and of the sector. FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE Assess and co-ordinate legislation, policy and strategy for Water Services. Support other Units in DWAF as well as Water Services Institutions with implementing policies and strategies. Advise through Executive Manager the DDGs, DG and the Minister on policy related issues.

4 FUNCTIONS OF SUB DIR: STRAT ASSESSMENT PURPOSE: To assess and develop policies and strategies employed by DWAF in the Water Services Sector and make recommendations regarding the improvements thereof. FUNCTIONS:  Assess the success of the sector policies and strategies.  Develop water services sector policies and strategies.  Develop and maintain a strategic assessment system, linked to national regulatory monitoring system KEY PROJECTS:  Private Land guideline, WS Provincial sector plan guideline, Informal settlement guideline and MUS guideline  Annual Strategic Assessment of the sector report  Input to Sector Support Strategy by the development of WSP support framework.  Development of WS IAM strategy/implementation plan

5 FUNCTIONS OF SUB DIR: POLICY & STRAT CO-ORD PURPOSE: To interact and coordinate with Water Sector Partners and Stakeholders in order to align legislation, policies and strategies. FUNCTIONS:  Develop sector policy and strategy.  Interact and coordinate with Sector Partners and Stakeholders’ processes to ensure coordination of policies, strategies and guidelines.  Manage public consultation and participation processes.  Support DWAF Regional Offices with policy formulation and implementation. KEY PROJECTS:  Review of Water Services Act  Appeals in terms of Section 8 of the WS Act  WS Policy database  Links with WR
