The Selfless The Abnegation value selflessness. They don’t draw attention to themselves, believing that it would be self- indulgent, which is why they wear plain, grey, clothing. They try to cover as much skin as possible, as to not draw attention. Abnegation believe selfishness was the reason for the world’s problems, which is why they don’t look in mirrors, they eat plain food, they don’t ask questions, and they help in anyway possible. They form the government in the Divergent society. The Abnegation help support the faction-less, and volunteer everywhere throughout their city. They are the humble faction in the Divergent society.

The Dauntless believe in fearlessness, and bravery. They believe cowardice is the reason for the world’s problems. The Dauntless love having attention, which is why they wear black clothing, pierce themselves, tattoo themselves, and dye their hair. They go through harsh training and learn to face their fears. The Dauntless protect their city from dangers unknown, and provide security for the factions as well. They are the reckless, fun, and hard- core faction.

The Intelligent The Erudite value knowledge. They believe ignorance is the reason for the world’s problems. They seek information about everything, wherever they are. They don’t believe in pointless things like pets, or the Abnegation faction. They do not like the fact that Abnegation is ruling their society. Erudite offer simulation serum and most of the technology for the society. The Erudite spend their spare time by reading in the library or, something from the computer. They are also known to have memorized the city map. They wear blue because they believe it to be a stimulating color. Erudite is the smart, and technology savvy faction.

Candor The Honest The Candor value Honesty. They believe that deception is the reason for the world’s problems, so now they always speak their mind and always tell the truth. Their role in the Divergent society is to try the accused and offer sound and trustworthy leaders. The Candor wear black and white because they see truth that way. Reading body language and facial expressions to tell when someone is lying, is what they learn. Candor is the trustworthy faction.

THE PEACEFUL Amity The Amity believe in peace and friendliness. They are the faction people turn to for care and comfort. They blame conflict and hatred for the world's problems. Amity wear red and yellow because they are happy colors. They remain neutral in times of war, and they believe it is acceptable to lie to keep the peace. Amity is the friendly faction.
