Relationship with the marquise du Chatelet – relates to Candide and Cunegonde. Studies at the Château de Cirey: -Metaphysics -Leibniz -Newton -Bible After 15 years at the Château, Voltaire returns to Paris. He publishes a few works, and becomes the philosopher-poet to Frederick the Great. However they quarrel and Voltaire leaves.
Death 1754: lives on the border of France, then moves to Geneva 1759: publishes Candide and moves to Ferney Treatise On Tolerance Dictionnaire Philosophique 1778: returns to Paris to a hero’s welcome, and dies shortly after
