BalkanGEONet Balkan GEO Network – Towards Inclusion of Balkan Countries into Global Earth Observation Initiatives ENV Identification and Networking of EO activities in the Balkan area Expected impact: Comprehensive review and gap analysis of the needs, potential and prospective contribution of the Southeast European region to GEO. Contribution to relevant GEO Work Plan tasks including CB b (Building institutional capacity to use EO - Establishing regional CB networks)

Permanent Networking Facility Main deliverable of B.GN Project New facility related to GEOSS The idea for creating PNF – Who – Where – When – At what cost

Balkan EO Directory – partner search – expertise search – EO activities search Has a role in a long-term process of strengthening collaboration among stakeholders Connecting stakeholders beyond the lifetime of the project Permanent Networking Facility

Assessing EO communities 278 identified stakeholders SRB: 37 ROM: 7 GRE: 17 SLO: 46 CRO: 32 BiH: 25 TUR: 28 ALB: 23 CYP: 1 BLG: 27 FYRM: 7 MNE: 28 BalkanGEONet OBSERVE Partner project

Integrating outcomes of previously funded EO activities 235 identified activities SRB: 36 ROM: 18 GRE: 34 SLO: 40 CRO: 34 B&H: 14 B&H: 14 ALB: 37 BLG: 39 FYRM: 11 MNE: 34 BalkanGEONet

Data integration Stakeholders (government, SMEs, scientific community) EO activities (projects, programmes, initiatives…) Permanent Networking Facility (PNF)

What PNF isn’t! Not a GEOSS portal No EO data – But links to those could be provided Not a closed structure. Updates and renewal of data will be possible

Features Searchable – Geographical (country, region, city) – SBAs – stakeholder type (user, provider…) – activity type and topic – data format, standards, accessibility Updateable – new entries – correction and editing of existing data on request Centralized management – no user accounts

Data structure

Location

Structure of the PNF website

Search criteria for exploring data related to EO players

Search criteria for exploring data related to EO activities

Search criteria for exploring data related to GEOSS components

Entering new data No registration or password are required No fee is charged User is guided through a serious of wizard screens which contain forms with input fields and drop down menus The inputs will be later checked by the administration and maintenance personnel of the PNF

Forthcoming activities Updating and validating existing PNF data & information. Training for stakeholders, users... Preparation for self-sustainable networking facility beyond Project lifetime.

Thank you and enjoy PNF search! The PNF is a common property of two project partners who have participated in its development – University of Novi Sad, Serbia and University of Split, Croatia. The ownership is restricted only to the exploitation of the visual identity, the PHP source code and the database structure. There is however, no ownership of the data contained and it is available for the entire GEO community free of charge and without registration.
