ICP Unit 2 Quiz Review Powerpoint

Warmup Write down a scientific phenomenon that you do not understand. Write 2 questions about it.

Quiz Review According to one idea, the entire universe can be divided into two categories: matter and energy. Matter – anything that takes up space and has mass Atom – smallest whole piece of matter Molecule – some atoms only behave like pure substances if they are in groups of more than one. – Example: Oxygen always exists as O 2. Compound – made up of multiple types of atoms.

Quiz Review Pure substance – matter that has a fixed composition and definite properties. – Examples: oxygen, water Mixture – a combination of pure substances that can be physically separated.

Types of Mixtures Heterogeneous mixture – substances in this mixture are not evenly distributed. – Examples: salad, trail mix Homogeneous mixture – substances in this mixture are evenly distributed. – Examples: gasoline, Coca-Cola

Types of Properties Physical properties – characteristics that can be observed without changing the identity of a substance – Examples: color, density, mass, shape Chemical properties – describes how a substance changes into a new substance – Examples: flammability, reactivity

Types of Changes Physical change – a physical change affects one or more physical properties of a substance without changing the identity of the substances – Examples: sugar dissolving in water, ice cream melting Chemical change – happens when one or more substances are changed into entirely new substances with different properties – Examples: something burning, vinegar and baking soda fizzing

Density Solve each question using the density, mass, volume triangle.

Classwork/Homework Homework: Finish Quiz Review. Those who have it ready tomorrow will receive their reward.
