Drawing Upon Our Resources

Natural Resources You have learned that natural resources are materials found in nature and used by living things. These oranges are natural resources. Yum!

Natural Resources You can place natural resources in three categories: renewable, nonrenewable, and inexhaustible resources. quartz waterfall sunlight

Community Resources Did you know that you can learn about the contributions of citizens and organizations who have helped create balance and stability in our world? Authors sometimes create fictional characters who can teach us important ideas about balance and stability. You can discover why Robinson Crusoe, a fictional character, was forced to create a community after being left on an island.

Economic Resources Balance and stability in economics are vital to the American way of life. As you learn about earning, spending, and saving, you can relate these concepts to the creation of a small business. Do you know much about the assembly line? You can see why Henry Ford used it in his business and the impact it had on our economy!

Personal Resources By maintaining balance and stability in your body, you can have a healthy lifestyle. The food pyramid, exercise, and the need for rest are all important. To help you get the most of your personal resources, you can set personal fitness goals.

Guiding Questions: Why are renewable and nonrenewable resources important to the balance and stability of a community? How do natural resources help a community maintain balance and stability? How do people help provide balance and stability within a community? How does the free enterprise system help our country keep a balanced economy? How does a balanced diet and exercise program contribute to a healthy community ?
