If events in Genesis 1-11 were not meant to be understood as historical, then the rest of the Bible would indicate that. Genesis 1 - God spoke everything into existence Exodus 20:8-11 Sabbath day “for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth,” Ps. 33:6-9 “by the word of the Lord the heavens were made”

Psalms 148:1-4 “praise Him, all His hosts, praise him, sun and moon; praise Him, all you stars of the night.” Figurative language About created things v. 5 “Let them praise the name of the Lord, for He commanded and they were created.”

Bible is unlike any other book God conveys his message to mankind in history.

Many doctrines are rooted in this book Clothing 7 day week God’s scheme of redemption

2 Timothy 3: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17. that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
