“WE LOVE LIFE, NOT BECAUSE WE ARE USED TO LIVING BUT BECAUSE WE ARE USED TO LOVING.” -FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

 Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher.  He was born on October 15 th,  Nietzsche’s father was a minister before he died due to a brain ailment. His father died when he was young.  From 1854 to 1864, Friedrich attended a first-rate boarding school. It was a very good and respected school.  He then attended Bonn University after graduation as a theology and philology student.  Friedrich became very interested in philology at University.  He was inspired by Friedrich Wilhelm Ritschl to attend the University of Leipzig in  After taking time away from University to be in the military, he returned back to the University of Leipzig and met Richard Wagner. Wagner and Nietzsche were very close up until Wagner’s death.  Friedrich’s career began when he took a job at Swiss University at the age of 24.

SPIRITUAL HISTORY AND HIS POINT OF VIEW FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

 Friedrich Nietzche grew up in a Christian household. His father had been a minister.  He believed and accused some philosophers of lacking critical sense.  Friedrich fought against the idea that Christianity has become an ideology set forth by institutions.  He somewhat attacked Christians because he felt they failed to represent the life of Jesus. There wasn’t a good distinction between the church and Jesus, he believed.

EXISTENTIAL OR AESTHETIC POINT OF VIEW FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

 Nietzsche thought that people need to identify some source of value in life, and if they could not find it, they would turn to nationalism.  He was interested more in will to power, where people turn to their will to power and use self discovery, rather than discovery of other people.  Friedrich believed that human egos were like a story. He thought that a real life changing philosophy embraces change and recognizes that change is the only real and true constant in the world.

ETHICAL POINT OF VIEW FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

 He was an anti-realist when it came to reality.  Friedrich Nietzsche believed that he had a responsibility as a man, a fully emancipated man, to have a strong and proud consciousness.  He believed that he should be equal to only himself and leave moral customs behind.  He had very strong opinions on how you should be as a person, and how you should act as a Christian.  Nietzsche believed nihilism was a search for meaning.

INFLUENCE ON NIETZSCHE FROM OTHER PHILOSOPHERS FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE

 Nietzsche was influenced by Friedrich Wilhelm Ritschl to go to the University of Leipzig.  Friedrich Nietzsche studied and looked to Arthur Schopenhauer for ideas and beliefs.  Nietzsche was interested in the philosophies of Plato and Aristotle.  One of his strongest influences was Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.  He believed in the organicism (views worlds as organic wholes) of Paul Bourget.
