The Characters Bobby: Bobby: He’s the kid everyone likes to make fun of. He’s obese, and hates Summer because of it. He runs into a lot of trouble, but that only makes him less scared of the world. Joanie Joanie: Bobby’s best friend. They both have something everybody makes fun of them for, so they just grew to like each other. She gets made fun of because of her crooked nose. Pete: Pete’s the guy every girl wants. He’s a lifeguard, and the only guy Willie’s afraid of. He protects Bobby whenever he’s in trouble. He’s also Bobby’s sister, Michelle’s boyfriend. The Characters I think my favorite character would have to be Pete. He was the one who taught Bobby that he doesn’t need to worry what other people think about him, it’s what he thinks about himself. I think he was a really inspiring character. I think my favorite character would have to be Pete. Bobby runs into a few…problems during his Summer vacation. First of all, he’s insecure about his weight, so he doesn’t go swimming, which would be hard to do during Summertime. Did I like this book? – Yeah I thought it was a pretty good book. It kept me wanting to read more and more, and never stop until I’m finished. What specifically did I like or dislike? - I liked the fact that the book was about bullying, because I think that’s getting really bad. I didn’t like that the book didn’t have anything about how Willie felt, because every bully has something wrong with them, something that makes them want to bully other kids. The Summary One Fat Summer was about a kid named Bobby, who has to go through some obstacles to have a good Summer. He has a bully, who wants to practically kill him for taking his Summer job. He has that Summer job, but only gets paid 50 cents an hour, and he does A LOT of work. His best and only friend leaves him for about 4 weeks and when she comes back, she has changed. He barely knows her, he thinks. I thought the book was really good, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good book, that will keep them interested and eager to read more.
