General Facts and Information The moon is the earth’s only natural satellite (a celestial body orbiting another of larger size). The moon is cold and dry and has craters (a depression formed by impact) on it’s surface. The moon has no atmosphere (mass of air that surrounds the object). In this picture the moon appears larger than the earth because we are looking at it from a closer distance than the earth.
