VANTAAN KAUPUNKI VANDA STAD Vantaa Detoxification Treatment Center -established only place in Vantaa that offers inpatient care specially for withdrawal symptoms -max. number of patients (2 places for prearranged treatment, e.g crisis or interval) -admission by referral only -only adult patients (age 18+), all kinds of substance dependencies -staff: -managing social worker -1 social worker -doctor (currently 4 days/week) -4 nurses -10 instructors (practical nurses) -1 office worker and 2 hostesses

VANTAAN KAUPUNKI VANDA STAD Statistics total number of clients 373 -total number of treatment periods 712 (1.9/client) -average length of treatment per client 17.9 days -average length of a treatment period 9.4 days -totally 6680 bed-days, utilization rate 129,7 % -of the clientele -33 % female -46 % unemployed, 18 % working -76 % living alone -25 % without permanent housing -75 % age 30 – % main substance alcohol -developing trends: -number of female clients is growing -amount of psychiatric diseases and symptoms among the clients is rising -number of drug abusing (especially suffering from opiate addiction) clients is growing

VANTAAN KAUPUNKI VANDA STAD About the treatment -four forms of treatment: -medical treatment (e.g. medication conformable to symptoms) -group treatment (e.g. discussion groups, creative groups, mutual aid groups (AA, NA) -individual treatment (e.g. counselling, networking with authorities and families, advice on housing, income etc., individualized treatment and rehabilitation planning) -therapeutic community (a work in progress!) -goals of treatment: -to take care of acute withdrawal symptoms -to engage clients into rehabilitation and continous care -to prepare and motivate clients for a sober life
