THE FOURTH: WHO IS YOUR DADDY? AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT AND ITS VARYING APPLICABILITY. (FIRST YEAR CONFIRMATION 6 TH )

HONOR YOUR PARENTS When we obey our parents we are regarding them as God’s representatives. We are called to “obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” (Eph 6:1) But parents are also called to “not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Eph 6: 4). Parents show us Christ’s love by bringing us up in God’s word and in relationship to him, in turn we show our parents as much love as we are capable of (but we are not perfect). Click on proverbs

OBEY AUTHORITY Who counts as our authorities other than our parents? God reminds us that he placed many people over us and under us to keep order. We are to be submissive and willing to any one God has placed over us, including parents, teachers, bosses, and other parents. We should also rule and be kind when leading in an authority that God has given to us to fulfill. “Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy to all people.” Titus 3:1submissive

HONOR THE GOVERNMENT God has created government to form order in our nation. Paul even goes to say that, “he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against God who instituted it” (Rom.13: 2). But when the time comes that the laws of a government challenge the law of God we are called to “obey God rather then men” (Acts 5:29).
