JESUS (Matthew 12:34-37) You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. {35} The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. {36} But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. {37} For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
(Proverbs 11:9) With his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor. (Proverbs 16:28) A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends. (Proverbs 26:28) A lying tongue hates those it hurts.
(Proverbs 10:32) The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse. (Ephesians 5:4) Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
(Proverbs 10:19) When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. (Proverbs 13:3) He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. (Proverbs 15:28) The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. (Proverbs 17:27) A man of knowledge uses words with restraint... (Proverbs 21:23) He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity.
(Proverbs 4:20, 22) My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.. for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body. (Proverbs 10:13) Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning… (Proverbs 14:3) … the lips of the wise protect them. (Proverbs 20:15) Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel. (Proverbs 31:26) She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
(Proverbs 12:6) The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them. (Proverbs 12:18) Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (Proverbs 15:1) A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (1 Peter 3:9) Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (Proverbs 15:4) The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 17:9) He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
The Right Words at the Right Time (Proverbs 10:32) The lips of the righteous know what is fitting. (Proverbs 15:23) A man finds joy in giving an apt reply-- and how good is a timely word! (Proverbs 25:11-12) A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. {12} Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man's rebuke to a listening ear. The Rewards of a Good and Encouraging Words (Proverbs 12:14) From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him. (Proverbs 18:21) The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
(Ephesians 4:22-29) You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self…to be made new in the attitude of your minds… {25} Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully … {26} In your anger do not sin … {29} Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
