Dental Health Why do we need to place importance on dental health for children right from the start? –Temporary teeth serve several purposes –Establish good habits for a lifetime (Marotz, pp ) Field Trip Baby Teeth are Important by Dr. Molly Gunsaulis

Supporting Healthy Teeth How can parents support healthy teeth for their children? –Regular dental visits –Provide them with a healthy diet –Teach children how to brush and be a good role model Field Trip Tooth Brushing for Kids – Crawford the Cat – Educational

Healthy Teeth and Bones Necessary minerals: Calcium, Phosphorus, Flouride, Iron Important vitamins: A, D, C, B (essential for cell division and formation and maintenance of bones) Water: important for all body tissue How can ECPs use this information with children they care for? (Marotz, pp )

Let’s work together! Getting families educated on and involved in children’s health is a must! How would you plan in-service training for staff and family? How would you plan to get a busy parent/caregiver more involved in a child's health and safety?

HELP! From what you may glean from your readings, class materials and/or classroom experience, what health issue do you think will be/is your biggest challenge? How do you think you may (or how do you presently) handle this challenge?

Wrap-up Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself." -Chinese Proverb
