Creating your own Genetic Profile We shall represent the idea of a Genetic Profile by simplifying it to one fictional unique sequence of DNA from one chromosome extracted from everyone present. This DNA sequence comprises: STR’s (Short Tandem Repeats) are highly variable, quick to mutate, sections of DNA. Everyone has a unique combination inherited from their parents. The rate at which they mutate makes it incredibly unlikely for someone to have the same STR’s as someone else – perfect for forensics. Using this template Shade down (pencil, anonomous) the left column if you are Female, and the right if you are Male. The reason for this will soon be made clear. Shade 6 squares across for each sequence length you have. Blank Template Female Example Male Example
Cut out and around your Genetic Profiles. When finished Female Example Male Example And then hand it over to your teacher
Your teacher has combined the sequences together to form a series of children of unknown parentage. Using your genetic sequences you will now find out who reproduced with who one fateful bizarre night. Special Delivery!
