Tippu Sulthan's Birth Place 1753 Tippu was born in Devanahalli (karnataka) on friday, November 20th, At the age of fifteen he used to accompany his father Hyder Ali, Ruler of Mysore State, Tippu had a very inquisitive mind & fascination for learning. His personal library was consisted of more than two thousand books in different languages. In 1782 Haider Ali's son Tipu succeeded his father and declared himself Sultan.

THEIR BOUNDARIES Both Hyder and Tippu together assumed full powers in Mysore and they extended the boundaries of Mysore state to a very great extent and made Mysore a very big state in South India.

COINS OF SULTHAN

Sultan Battery It is situated in Boloor.Built in Black Stones by Tippu Sulthan(King of the then state of Mysore) to prevent warships. Now the remaining part of the fort is called as Tippu’s Well. It is today a deserted spot but its construction is bafflingly exquisite. Although it is a watchtower, it gives the impression of a miniature fortress with its arrangements for mounting cannons all-round. The government of India has still not declared this as a heritage site (sigh!). There is a dark cave like looking tunnel that starts at the bottom of the fort. Folklore has it that this tunnel was a escape route built by Tipu Sultan and it ends in His fort at Srirangapatnam near mysore(more than 300 Kms away !)

Bekal served as an important military station of Tippu Sulthan when he led the great military expedition to capture Malabar. The coins and other artifacts unearthed by the archaeological excavation conducted recently at Bekal fort is a manifestation of the strong presence of the Mysore sulthans. The martyrdom of Tippu Sulthan who died fighting against the British in 1799 saw the end of Mysorean control and subsequently the fort came under the English East India Company.

Tippu Sulthan's Death Place 1799 In 1763 Hyder Ali of Mysore conquered Bednoor and his intention was to capture entire kerala. But when his attempt to conquer Thalassery fort was foiled, Hyder Ali returned to Mysore and died there in His son, Tippu Sulthan continued the attack and conquered Malabar. As per the Sreerangapattanam treaty of 1792, Tippu surrendered Malabar except Tulunadu (Canara) to the British. The British got Canara only after the death of Tippu Sulthan in 1799.
