PSAT Preliminary SAT October 14, 2009

Why should you take PSAT?

1) Scholarships… If you’re a sophomore, you will experience taking the PSAT for the first time and see if you might be in contention for a scholarship when you take the PSAT next year. If you’re a Junior, you will be competing in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation scholarship program.

2) Practice… The PSAT is a practice test for SAT – one of your college entrance exam choices You will learn how to take a timed test – totally different from TAKS. You will be taking an aptitude test – testing your ability to reason and solve problems. You will become familiar with the format of the SAT…critical reading skills, math problem solving skills, and writing skills.

3) Study plan… When your test is scored, you will get a study plan customized just for you.

4) College readiness… You will find out your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. You can then focus on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.

5) College and career planning… You will receive “My College QuickStart,” a free, personalized college and career planning kit that will allow you to –begin a search for careers that match your skills, interests and talents and –begin a search of colleges that match your personal preferences and needs.

6) You will also be able to connect to… MyRoad, an interactive college and career planning website. MyRoad comes complete with major and career profiles, an online magazine, self-discovery tools, a planning portfolio, and more.

7) AND SAT Online… A free, online SAT prep course that would otherwise cost a substantial amount of money. Remember, your SAT score may have a huge influence on your college choices.

8) An added benefit… If you have the skills to do well on PSAT, you’ll also do well on TAKS. Taking the PSAT is good practice for TAKS.
