What is it? Open source software (also known as oss) is a computer software where people who own the software can submit idea’s into where the software was made and then in the next edition the idea may be used. In opposition to that there is proprietary software such as Microsoft office word which do not allow you to edit the coding in their software and it is illegal if you do so and against their copyright. Proprietary software This is a different type of software, with this type of software you can’t change any of the content within the software- this could be a good thing or a bad thing Proprietary software can be a good thing because it means that you can’t change anything and muck about on it. Proprietary software can be a bad thing because they can make updates which they usually charge a lot of money for I think that proprietary software is a bad thing because not being able to change things within the software makes me feel left out.

Why it has a place? It has a place because some people like to edit the software to their liking also the software may need to be changed. People may prefer to have the option to change things where as with proprietary software people may feel blocked out. Open source software can come a lot cheaper than big proprietary software such as Microsoft office. Here is a link for you and for prospective buyers to look at:
