Parts of the Computer By Mrs. Gordon 1

2

Monitor or Computer Screen The monitor displays the computer's open programs, allowing the user to interact with the computer. This is where you see what you are doing on the computer. 3

CPU Central Processing Unit The CPU is the hardware that enables computers to store and use data. It is located inside your computer tower. This is the brains of the computer where all the important information is stored. 4

Mouse The mouse is an object moved across the top of a desk that controls the cursor or pointer on the computer screen. 5

Keyboard 6 The keyboard is a set of typewriter-like keys that enables you to enter data, like your favorite web site, into a computer.

Headphones Headphones are a pair of speakers worn over or in your ears so only you can hear the sound. 7

CD or Compact Disc CDs are round portable discs used to store digital information. Pictures or information can be saved on these. 8

CD Drive This is the drawer in the computer where you place the CDs. 9

Speakers Speakers produce audio output that can be heard by the listener. With speakers, everyone can hear. 10

Microphone A microphone is used in recording or transmitting sound. 11

Printer A printer is a device that prints text or illustrations on paper. 12

Scanner A scanner is a device that captures images from sources for computer editing and display. Pictures and other images are placed on here and this device makes a copy of them which shows up on your computer so you can edit (or change) it. 13

14 Well, that wasn’t as tough as I thought. Now I know all the proper terms for a computer.
