Christmas in Liberia, Africa © Christina Bainbridge
Hello! My name is Brian. My family just moved to America from Liberia, a country in Africa. Boy, Christmas sure is different in America! Let me tell you how we celebrated back home.
Many people in Africa celebrate Christmas, over 350 million. But it is much different than in America!
In Liberia, we didn’t have a Christmas tree in our house. Instead, we decorated an Oil Palm Tree that was in our yard! Most people decorate trees from their yard with bells for Christmas.
On Christmas morning, we used to get up early and walk the streets singing carols. I loved starting my Christmas morning singing for my neighbors!
When we get home, we receive gifts. We give gifts that we know people can use like pencils, soap, candies, and books. Then after our gifts, we eat a big meal outdoors. We eat beef, rice, and biscuits. Yum!!!
At the end of the night is my favorite activity… fireworks! I love watching them light up the sky on Christmas night! That is the thing I miss the most about Christmas in Liberia.
Well, it is Christmas Eve here in America and Santa Claus will be coming any minute. So I’d better head off to sleep!
I hope you had fun learning about Liberia! I think I hear Santa Claus coming now… bye! And Happy Christmas from Liberia!
