Soil and Water Conservation Act (SWCA) 1977 By: Kristen Wright

Call to Action  RCA provides the Department of Agriculture (USDA) with broad planning authority and calls for the development of a national program to guide USDA activities for the conservation, protection, and enhancement of soil, water, and related natural resources.

The Focus:  provides for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to possess information, technical expertise, and a system for providing assistance to land users with respect to conservation and use of soils, plants, woodlands, watershed protection, and related resource uses.

Who is Responsible?  The Department of Agriculture developed the national soil and water conservation program. (USDA)  The assistant of secretary for natural resources & environment is in charge of overseeing the act& ensuring the necessary tests are done and given to congress. (NRE)

Amendments:  In 1961, certain responsibilities dealing with the conservation and protection of water resources were added to the Law and the word “water” was added to the title, making the districts “Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
